This project has been re-named from the previous Asdaf Islands and will be built in the shape of a seahorse. Local Gulf Finance House (GFH) has also joined this scheme. Dredging and reclamation for phase 1, covering 2.5 million square metres, is due to commence by the end of 2005, with both land and infrastructure development completed in (18) months. Phase 2 will cover about 3.5 million square metres.

Local Ahmed Mansour Al-Aali (AMA) has been awarded the estimated $26 million contract to carry out infrastructure work covering all three phases.

Five companies have submitted bids for the infrastructure work covering all three phases on this scheme. The contract, estimated to be worth $40 million-$66 million, covers four bridges, raised embankments, district cooling, street-lighting, storm-water drainage and sewerage systems. The bidders include local AA Nass Contracting, Ahmed Mansour Al-Aali, Haji Hassan; Sharjah-based Al-Hamad Contracting; and UAE's Wade Adams Contracting.

Local Ahmed Mansoor Al-Aali has been awarded another contract to carry out third-phase dredging work on the project. The contract, worth $13 million, calls for dredging and reclamation of an area of 84,250 square metres.

Tender documents are due to be released soon for two further packages on this scheme. The first will cover dredging and reclamation work for phase 3 of the project, likely to cover an area of about 80,000 square metres. The second tender will be for infrastructure work on the entire project, including roads, storm-water drainage and four bridges. It is expected to be worth in the region of $32 million-$47 million.

A tender is due to be issued soon for the external infrastructure works covering the entire BFH development. Estimated to be worth $32 million-$47 million, the contract will involve construction of roads, storm-water drainage and four bridges of varying lengths - a three-span, 140-metre bridge and three single-span bridges of 36-42 metres. The contract will take at least (12) months to complete. The infrastructure works also include a district cooling and a sewage treatment plant, which are being tendered separately. Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC), being the lowest bidder at $89.8 million, has received a letter of intent for the main construction sub-contract on this project. Formal signing is due to take place in early March 2005 to coincide with a ground-breaking ceremony. A tender has also been issued for package B on the project, covering the revamp of existing facilities at the refinery and tie-in works. Three approved local sub-contractors - Ahmed Mansour Aali, Mechanical Contracting & Services Company and Ramasis Engineering - have been invited to bid.
